What is poverty? It if you take a minute to think about it, there are a plethora of ways to measure and categorize poverty and thus it has no simple, unified definition. However among the majority of the populous, it is simply known as the population of people who are financially unstable and homeless. But a lot more goes into poverty than just not having a roof over one's head or not having a steady income.

In actuality, poverty is when you don't have the resources to maintain a sustainable livelihood such as food and water. Its effects often consist of hunger and malnutrition, limited education, homelessness, and exclusion. Because of these devastating circumstances, caused by entering poverty, the adults in poverty end up carrying their children into this loop of poverty as well. These children then falling into poverty, often then also carry it over to their future children.

Thus poverty starts in one place, but once it is initiated it is often a continuous and unbreakable loop for that family or group of individuals.

That is the reason for why in 2015, more than 736 million people lived in poverty. Additionally, now around 10 percent of the population globally is struggling in extreme poverty and lack necessities and essentials like water and sanitation. To help these levels decrease many organizations are taking proactive action like the UN. The UN even considers poverty such a vital issue that it is one of their sustainable development goals.
At the end of the day, many of us are fortunate enough to not be in those circumstances of poverty. Sp we should help those who are, whenever we can!
